Improvement Construction Begins for the Loomis Garage

New Project to Enhance Shed-to-Shed Walking Concept in Downtown Loomis

Loomis, California, January 11, 2022 – Construction has begun on the site of the former Mehl Chevrolet building at 3701 Taylor Road. The Loomis Garage is a mixed-use central commercial retail development project in downtown Loomis and currently has two signed tenants scheduled to open when construction is completed.

The Mehl building, originally built in the early 1900’s by Berhnard Mehl, was initially established as the General Garage, an auto repair shop, and later became Mehl Chevrolet until 1956 when the dealership was sold to Allton Chevrolet. Several other businesses have operated in the building throughout the years but the property is still owned by the Mehl family, Loomis locals, working to develop a curated profile of tenants within the project to further enhance the shed-to-shed walking concept in downtown Loomis.

Two tenants have already signed on to the project. Valiant Coffee, an established coffee roaster in Loomis, will bring their coffee roasting expertise to the Loomis Garage and will be serving coffee and espresso drinks and breakfast items from their large suite. Laura Neuman of PepperJack Interiors will open her new design showroom in the Loomis Garage. Ms. Neuman, an award-winning interior designer with an established business in Loomis, specializes in residential interior design, renovation, and new home building.

The renovation is focused on preserving the building’s history and retro small-town character with attention to its nostalgic 1950’s charm. The Loomis Garage buildings will maintain the vintage exposed beam ceilings on the interior and retro garage motif on the exterior.

The Loomis Garage will be a curated portfolio of commercial retail space consisting of 6 units (approx. 565-1,308 sf) that can be combined to increase square footage to suit each tenant’s specific needs.
